BREAKING: Manchester United star Mason Greenwood remains on bail after rape arrest

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood remains on bail following a court hearing after his arrest on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and threats to kill.

The footballer, 20, was first arrested on January 30 on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman. He was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

A hearing was held in court yesterday (June 23) over the footballer's bail position. A statement issued by Greater Manchester Police said that his bail remains.

The statement said: "Following a hearing yesterday (Thursday 23 June 2022), a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill on Sunday 30 January 2022 remains on bail. As the outcome of bail reviews does not impact the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be providing any further updates in relation to this case until the suspect is charged or released facing no further action."

No dates for any further hearings have been specified at this stage. The academy product was originally due to answer bail, where he is required to turn up a police station, on April 30 but a day before GMP said an application would be made to the courts to extend it.

Greenwood has been suspended from Manchester United and has not played for the club since the Premier League fixture against West Ham on 22 January. After initially suspending their relationship with the forward, Nike has also confirmed that their partnership with him has ended.
