Breaking: Manchester City suffer major Ederson injury blow as timescale revealed

Ederson is set to spend a month on the sidelines with the injury he picked up for Manchester City against Liverpool.

The Brazilian goalkeeper gave a penalty away trying to stop Darwin Nunez from getting on the end of a Nathan Ake backpass and hurt himself in the process. He tried to continue but limped off minutes later, with Stefan Ortega replacing him.

Subsequent tests have shown that Ederson will be out for around three to four weeks with the problem, almost certainly ruling the No.1 out of the crunch game with Arsenal at the end of the month. While he likely wouldn't have featured against Newcastle in the FA Cup this week, league games against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wolves could all come too soon for him.

The first leg of the Champions League quarter-final takes place on April 9/10.

While it is disappointing news for City, Pep Guardiola will at least be able to have full confidence in Ortega stepping in. The German has made a name for himself as the best No.2 goalkeeper the club have had over recent years and is regularly pushing for the opportunity to get an extended spell in front of goal.

Ortega equipped himself well with Ederson off the pitch on Sunday at Anfield and should now get several games in a row to help the team and show what he can do. John Stones was full of praise for the shotstopper for the way he came into the side in difficult circumstances at the weekend.
