BREAKING: Bomb squad on scene and roads closed off after 'suspicious item' found in Oldham

Bomb disposal experts have been scrambled to a street in Oldham this afternoon following reports of a 'suspicious item'.

Police said the item was found on Drake Close. A cordon is in place on the street and on surrounding roads.

People are being urged to avoid the area. A statement posted on the GMP Oldham Twitter page said: "#INCIDENT I Officers are at Drake Close, Oldham, after reports of a suspicious item being found and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are currently assessing the scene.

"There is cordon in place and several surrounding roads are closed - the public is advised to avoid the area."

This comes after 'suspicious items' were found on Sweetloves Lane in Bolton at around 8am this morning. A 100m cordon was put in place as bomb disposal experts assessed the item, which was found to be non-explosive.
