Police are now urging witnesses to come forward. They have also released details of a white 'estate car' which is believed to be linked to the incident, as detectives appeal for any video footage which could help their investigation.
Detective Sergeant Kirsty Pierce, of GMP's Stockport CID, said: "This appears to be an isolated attack and we have increased patrols within the local community. This happened just after midnight on Wednesday and we believe that the three males responsible for breaking into the home and carrying out the attack on the male, arrived in a white vehicle - possibly an estate car - which came down Queens Drive and then parked on the junction with Thornfield Drive.
"After the attack, the three males jumped into the vehicle, which then sped off in the direction of Mauldeth Road in Heaton Mersey. GMP are asking anyone who may have any dashcam, CCTV or ring doorbell footage which shows this vehicle, between 12.15am and 12.30am on Wednesday, September 13 2023 to come forwards
