Boxing: David Jamieson in 'career-best preparation' for Cheavon Clarke clash at Wembley
East Kilbride boxer David Jamieson has undergone ‘career-best preparation’ for the biggest fight of his life on Saturday.
The Westwood fighter takes on Cheavon Clarke at the OVO Wembley Arena in London in a British title fight eliminator, that will line up a shot at the cruiserweight belt.
It’s an enormous opportunity for Jamieson, 31, against his Jamaican-English opponent, who is a year older.
Jamieson said: “I’m ready to go. You hear fighters say it all the time, but it has honestly been a career-best preparation.
“Taking time off of work in the lead-up to just fully preparing, and focusing fully on boxing has made a hell of a difference.
“I feel stronger and fitter, I’m working with a strength and conditioning coach, and the numbers don’t lie.
“We took my base readings at the start of camp, the numbers are all up, and you can see a massive difference in my physique as well.
“It’s all about giving myself the best opportunity. It’s about giving myself the best crack of the whip, and I have done that.”
The fight, which is on the undercard of the Sunny Edwards v Andres Campos IBF World flyweight title fight, is also likely to put Iamieson in front of his biggest crowd yet, but he’s unfazed.
The IBO Intercontinental champion said: “It will be nice to be part of a Matchroom show – I regard them as the Premier League of boxing, so it will be nice to be on one of those shows.
“Cheavon is a very good lad but I’ve not watched much tape, I leave that to my coach, Gerry Higgins, who does all of that.
“But we have a game-plan together, everything’s on track, and I’m hoping to get out of there as quickly as I can with a win.”
