Bowler pulls off 'greatest dropped catch ever' as fans go wild for ridiculous footwork

A teenage cricketer has pulled off the 'greatest dropped catch ever' after fumbling a caught and bowled chance, only to inadvertently kick the ball back up in the air and take the catch at the second time of asking.

16-year-old Alex Ryder took the catch for Aldwick Cricket Club in a friendly against Lingfield Cricket Club, with the moment getting caught on video by the stump camera.

The catch went viral after being shared by the @ThatsSoVillage Twitter page, having been dubbed the 'greatest dropped catch ever' by Aldwick. In the clip, even the batter can be seen smiling and raising his arms in disbelief at the catch, while one of Ryder's teammates says: "Oh my days, please be on the camera!"

And fans were quick to react on social media, with Sky Sports commentator Gary Taphouse writing: "Stunning bit of footwork, just not from the batsman."

Ryder's Aldwick teammate Dion Sampson added: "When 1 of your own youngsters does this….. drops a sitter, catches a screamer, eat your heart out @benstokes38"

@PeterTaitwrites added: "That's talent - footballing as much as cricketing talent, for sure!" @ProfAntIsles wrote: "Village cricket at it's ridiculous, amateurish, but brilliant best".

@sarahearlyyears agreed: "As the title says.. that's so village and 100% why the game is so much fun at local level."

Aldwick ultimately won the match by six wickets, with Ryder taking 2-25 from his six overs. Lingfield managed to score 171-7 from their 40 overs, before Aldwick chased it down inside 29 overs.
