Borna Barisic in Rangers new contract talks as he opens up on end of season injury woes

Borna Barisic has revealed he has started talks with Rangers on a new deal as he enters the final year of his contract at Ibrox.

The Croatian full back has been the subject of transfer speculation recently with reports suggesting Rangers may cash in on the 30-year-old who has been with the club for five years. He has a year left of his deal and missed the end of the season through injury, with his £3.4 million understudy Ridvan Yilmaz playing instead.

But Barisic - who is preparing for Croatia's Nations League semi-final next week against the Netherlands - has confirmed that talks have started with Rangers on a new deal. He said: "I have a contract with Rangers for one more year. I have started negotiations with the club. I don't want to say anything because you never know in football. However, I have a great relationship with everyone at the club and we will find the best solution.

"There's always speculation about my future. It reaches me - but little of it is true. I missed three games at the end of the season, I had a quadriceps injury, it wasn't terrible, but we didn't want to risk it. The last time I played it was for, about 25 minutes."

And Barisic is looking forward to playing for Croatia again. He said: "All four teams left in the Nations League are strong, the Dutch are playing at home, but there will also be a lot of our fans. It won't be easy, but that's why we're there and we have a chance. There is always high quality in the national team, we all fight, for a place and the manager decides. It is up to all of us to be ready at all times."
