Boris Becker’s Eurosport replacement confirmed following German’s prison sentence

Boris Becker will be replaced by former world No 25 Mischa Zverev, brother of Alexander Zverev, as Eurosport TV pundit.

Six-time Grand Slam champion Becker was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in a British jail in April for hiding £2.5million worth of assets and loans to avoid paying his debts.

The former world No 1 was found guilty of four offences under the Insolvency Act between June 21 and October 3 2017 and he is expected to serve half of the time, but he is unlikely to leave jail before 2023.

Becker has been part of the Eurosport team for several years and was the face of Matchball Becker alongside commentator Matthias Stach, but Zverev will take over with the programme renamed Matchball.

“In Mischa Zverev we have an expert who is not only close to the action, but has already worked for Eurosport at the Grand Slam and also at the entire tennis tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the Munich-Unterföhring studio for Eurosport. He knows both our team and the processes,” Gernot Bauer, head of Eurosport Sport Germany, said.

Zverev will also lead the French Open analyses this year.

“It will be two intensive weeks of tennis with top matches. Not only do I want to explain to the audience the small details that can often make a big difference, but I also want to convey their enthusiasm for tennis,” Zverev said.
