Bomb squad descend on industrial estate with cordon in place after 'war shell' found

Bomb disposal experts are on the scene of an industrial estate in Salford after a 'war shell' was discovered.

A cordon is currently in place on Lester Road in Little Hulton. Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the scene to a report of a World War Two shell being found.

The bomb squad is currently on the scene assessing the item. Police said there is not believed to be any risk to the wider community.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called just before 9.30am this morning (Tuesday 19 September) to a report of a WW2 shell found on Lester Road, Worsley. Officers attended and a suspected historic WW2 shell was found on arrival and EOD are currently assessing the item.

"A current 50m cordon is in place to ensure the safety of the public and there is believed to be no wider risk to the community."

In an update, GMP said:

"EOD have assessed the item and it was found not viable."

A GMP spokesperson said:
