Bolton Wanderers promotion chances predicted following Forest Green Rovers defeat

Bolton Wanderers have a free midweek before they return to League One action against Barnsley at the weekend.

Wanderers suffered a surprise defeat to Forest Green last time out, their second successive loss on the road with another 1-0 defeat to Cheltenham Town giving Ian Evatt's hopes of promotion an early blow.

Throughout the campaign, football statistics website FiveThirtyEight is forecasting how the League One table might finish after the results of every matchday, with the campaign reaching the climax of the regular season at the start of May before the play-offs.

As things stand, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday remain the two sides predicted to be automatically promoted from the league. Ipswich have jumped Wednesday in the league title stakes after an impressive recent run of form. Plymouth Argyle are predicted to just miss out on automatic promotion, occupying third place with Portsmouth, Derby County and Barnsley expected to take up the remaining play-off places.

Wanderers remain just outside the play-off places in the most recent prediction with an expected tally of 75 points, three points off the last prediction we outlined on September 26.
