Bolton Wanderers progression on show in Peterborough win as Ian Evatt gives Dapo Afolayan verdict

Ian Evatt believes Bolton Wanderers showed how they have progressed as a side in the weekend victory over Peterborough United as they demonstrated a mixture of skills to beat one of League One's big guns.

Wanderers hosted Posh at the University of Bolton Stadium over the weekend and went close to taking the lead in the first half when Gethin Jones headed against the post. Conor Bradley had earlier seen a good chance go wide.

After the break, Dion Charles curled over from outside the box, while Jack Iredale also saw an effort saved. But Wanderers went ahead thanks to Dapo Afolayan as his deflected effort bounced over the line to deliver the hosts a valuable three points.

Wanderers were able to show both sides to their game in the win over Posh. They married together coping with physicality along with their footballing abilities in time and Evatt believes Wanderers have developed their game this season already.

He said: “All I’ve wanted to do is have progression since I’ve been here and I think we’ve shown that progression. We’ve improved. Last season, we may well have been turned over and lost that game and at times been bullied, but there was none of that today.

"I think we saw glimpse of the football we can play. Conor’s chance first half would have been an outstanding goal from goalkeeper straight to him. Unfortunately he missed it but he’s there to miss it.

“We stood up at times to some pretty physical tactics. I’m delighted and really pleased.

“I think the work we’ve done to prepare the players was excellent because we recognised that they almost go man for man and really press high and then the space was
