Bolton Wanderers' Gethin Jones on Carlisle United reunion & Liverpool's Conor Bradley link-up

Gethin Jones says it will be 'great' to take on former club Carlisle United again with pre-season action for Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

Jones spent the 2019/20 season at Brunton Park, playing 37 times in all competitions for the Cumbrians. His time at the club was cut short owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He joined Wanderers in the summer of 2020 after learning of Ian Evatt's interest in signing him. He has gone on to play 71 times and score three goals in the next two campaigns and has become the club's vice-captain.

Jones has reflected on his time at Brunton Park ahead of making the journey to take on his former employers, against whom he played against for Wanderers in the 2020/21 promotion-winning campaign out of League Two. But he is looking forward to taking on his old club, along with Bolton team mates Kyle Dempsey and Jack Iredale who are former Cumbrians players also.

He said: “It was an interesting time. I had just left Fleetwood and I wanted somewhere I could enjoy my football again.

“Everything happened with Covid and my time there got cut short because I learned that the gaffer wanted me here at Bolton, and that was mind made up.

“You have the likes of Demps and Jack Iredale who have played there as well – and the last time we were there it was 3-0 at half time. Now that was an interesting game and the wind played a big part.

“But it’ll be great to go back up there, especially in front of the fans, and then we have the home game just before Ipswich, against Huddersfield, which will be a good test again.

“We can’t wait for that one because we can all remember that first game against Blackburn
