Body found in search for Jay Slater 29 days after teenager went missing in Tenerife

Police searching for missing teenager Jay Slater have discovered a body, it has been confirmed today (July 15).

The youngster, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, went missing on June 17. The apprentice bricklayer headed north from a rave in Playa de las Americas to the remote corner of the Canary Island after being invited to an Airbnb on the fringe of Masca by two men.

He left the property on foot, reportedly called friend Lucy Law at 8.30am to say he was lost and had one per cent battery on his phone, and has been missing since. Emergency services swarmed the Cruz de Hilda area until June 30, as they spent 12 days trying to find the teenager.

Now, the Civil Guard in Tenerife say they have found a body they believe to be that of Jay Slater. A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: “After 29 constant days of searching the lifeless body of the young man has been found in the Masca area.

“The discovery has been possible thanks to the tireless and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard over these 29 days. Everything is pointing to the body being that of the young British man who disappeared on June 17, pending full identification.

“Initial inquiries are pointing to him having suffered an accident/fall in the area where he was found.”
