Bobby Motaung upbeat about Zwane, Shepperd appointments at Chiefs: They've seen our challenges

Kaizer Chiefs' football manager Bobby Motaung said Arthur Zwane and Dillon Shepperd are perfectly equipped to address the club's current trophyless challenge.

Zwane and Shepperd were appointed on three-year contracts as coach and assistant coach respectively after stints assisting Gavin Hunt and Stuart Baxter.

Chiefs haven't lifted any silverware since the 2014/15 season and have rifled through coaches without success.

Motaung said promoting internally may also bridge the club's intellectual capacity gap that tends to be widened with the appointment of an external coach.

"Different coaches have different challenges and fortunes. As a club, we play with a particular philosophy and every coach that comes in changes that," Motaung said.

"We've reached Cup finals and once finished second in the league, but we didn't achieve, so there are different factors to that.

"We didn't say those people failed, but we're trying to address those challenges, and keeping Arthur and Dillon explains that because they've seen the challenges.

"Football is about fortune and luck and what if they change dramatically this season? Some coaches came in and didn't understand our challenges and inherited them.

"The difference is that with people who have been in the system, they understand the challenges better and deal better with them."

With Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates also employing local coaches, Chiefs have joined the bandwagon again.

After Baxter's successful first term, they tried Steve Komphela and Gavin Hunt, with little to show for it.
