Bobby Madden takes alternative view to Willie Collum over Rangers incident but hails SFA for 'seeing the light'

Bobby Madden has hailed the SFA for "seeing the light" and finally coming out to explain certain VAR calls, but disagrees with the justification for not disallowing a Rangers goal against Ross County.

New refs chief Willie Collum starred in the governing body's first VAR review show, where he talked through decisions from the opening four games of the Premiership season, admitting where officials got it wrong but also standing by other calls. One of which was a Cyriel Dessers goal in a 6-0 win for Philippe Clement's side over the Staggies at Hampden.

Collum reckoned ref and VAR were right not to pull play back for an apparent foul by Tom Lawrence that saw Gers regain possession before Dessers eventually find the net. Former whistler Madden weighed in on Instagram, praising his former employers for their transparency and willingness to explain refs thinking to fans. But he thinks County were hard done by as he offered his own take on things.

"Massive step forward and SFA finally seen the light," Madden posted. "Hopefully the real big incidents are reviewed consistently. I have to say I disagree with Rangers goal v Ross County. IMO you can't win possession when fouling and then go on to score.

"35 seconds and 11 passes later the goal is scored. Yes, the APP doesn't necessarily have to go back to when the scoring team take possession, but when they win the ball by committing a foul I think you have to."
