Bobby Madden takes aim at Kris Boyd over Joe Hart Celtic penalty debate as ex ref fumes 'give me strength'

Bobby Madden has been left stunned by pundits like Kris Boyd suggesting a penalty could have been given against Celtic in this afternoon's match with Ross County.

A flashpoint arose from the 4-2 Flag Day win in the Premiership for Brendan Rodgers' side. Simon Murray closed the Hoops No. 1 down with the game still at 0-0, and a heavy touch from Hart had the Staggies forward bearing down, but he stumbled and eventually fell to the deck inside the box under the goalkeeper's challenge. Stilyian Petrov admitted "I think it's a penalty, if he goes down" and his colleague in the punditry studio was on similar lines, but ref Nick Walsh said no.

Former Rangers striker Boyd said on Sky: "Why should he be punished for staying on his feet? There is no doubt he impedes him as he has to hurdle that leg. If he goes down there, I'll guarantee you it is given as a penalty kick."

That left former referee Madden scratching his head. Taking to his Instagram alongside a screenshot of the incident, the ex-whistler said: “And now we have pundits wanting a penalty because he ‘nearly fouled him’…give me strength."
