BMW driver taken to hospital after being attacked by gang of thugs in terrifying carjacking outside home

A man was taken to hospital after he was attacked by violent thugs in a reported carjacking attempt in Prestwich.

The shocking incident, which was captured on nearby CCTV, happened shortly before 3.30pm on Thursday afternoon (February 10).

In the footage, a blue BMW 4 series can be seen pulling into a driveway at a home on Belfield Road, near Craigwell Road.

Shortly after, two masked men are seen running out of a silver car and attacking the man as he gets out of his vehicle.

He is knocked to the ground within a matter of seconds.

Moments later, a neighbour is seen running to help, along with a dog to try and scare the thugs away.

The BMW's lights are briefly seen turning on, before the masked men jump back in their car and speed away from the scene.

Police were called to the shortly after and a small cordon was erected.

Forensics were also present and making enquiries until around 7.30pm.

The man was taken to hospital with 'minor head injuries', police said, and no arrests have been made yet.

Heroic neighbours described the incident as 'traumatic and scary'.

One person, who asked not to be named, saw the ordeal from their window and rushed out to help.

They caught the shocking incident on cameras.

"I was in my kitchen and saw him pull in his drive at the same time he does every day," they said.

"Seconds later I just heard him screaming for help at the top of his voice and ran to get my husband and the dog. I saw the men trying to get into the car.

"The car has a ghost immobiliser so they couldn't get it started, and they kept screaming and shouting at him as he lay on the floor.
