Blackpool Pleasure Beach to revive favourite ride after £4m refit

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has revived one of its most popular rides of all time. Valhalla will be back in action as of next month, following a huge £4 million refit.

The huge water ride, dubbed the UK’s ‘wettest’, first launched in 2000 at a cost of £15 million. It has been closed since 2019, but prior to that ran over 2000 feet and at a top speed of over 70 kph.

On the Norse legend themed ride, thrill seekers are watched over by a Viking named Ivàr, and experience elements including fire, ice and water in their journey to Valhalla and the afterlife. Riders are exposed to both gallons of water and temperatures ranging from -20c to 40c during the ride’s six minute duration.

Since its refurbishment, it’s said that new ‘surprises’ have been added to the popular ride, which will open properly in April.

Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, comments: “We know how long fans have been waiting for us to announce the reopening of Valhalla, and we’re confident they won’t be disappointed with our reimagining of one of the country’s best-loved rides.

“The team has been hard at work behind the scenes, and we can’t wait to have the famous Valhalla waterfall back on in the park once more. Guests will be able to experience the ride through technical rehearsals this April.

“Valhalla has well and truly been given the reimagining it deserves, now boasting some exciting new features and impressive sustainability credentials to help ensure the ride is more environmentally friendly - without compromising on the sense of adventure for which it’s been known for many years.”
