Blackpool boss unaware of any Burnley bid for full back Jordan Gabriel after recent speculation

Blackpool boss Michael Appleton is unaware of any Burnley bid for Jordan Gabriel, in spite of recent reports on the contrary.

Journalist Alan Nixon suggested that a £750k offer had been submitted to the Seasiders for the 23-year-old's services with Blackpool reportedly quoting £3m as an asking price, however Appleton stated that those reports are wide of the mark. Blackpool are already light at full back with no fit natural players at right back whilst Gabriel remains injured, something Appleton expects to have addressed come Reading on July 30.

Gabriel is expected to miss the start of the Championship season with a hamstring injury and has long been linked with a move to Turf Moor with weeks of speculation in the press. The same report in the Sun from Nixon suggested Blackpool might be willing to meet halfway on the fee with appearance bonuses involved but evidently no such offers have taken place.

"Yeah I saw that report myself, no I've genuinely not (got news) no. I saw that myself and I was a little bit surprised because I've not been contacted by Ben (Mansford) or anyone at the club to let me know on that one and as far as I'm aware he's not received or heard anything himself so I'm sure that should that be the case (in future) the word will get out and we'll let you know," Appleton told

"We'll let you know if it's then true but for now there's nothing in it."

Appleton was speaking after Blackpool's 2-4 defeat to Premier League Everton on Sunday afternoon where the Head Coach was also confident that the short full back area would be resolved in time for the arrival of Paul Ince's Reading next weekend. The Seasiders travel to AFC Fylde on Tuesday night for their final pre-season friendly of the season.
