'Bizarre' - Gary Neville questions Erik ten Hag tactical decision at Manchester United
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has described Erik ten Hag's decision to deploy Anthony Martial up front in recent weeks as "bizarre".
The Frenchman, despite producing a poor performance against Newcastle United seven days earlier, was recalled to the starting line-up for Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. He started in the centre of attack, replacing Rasmus Hojlund, who Ten Hag seemingly wanted to keep as fresh as possible for Tuesday night's visit of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Again, it was a decision that offered no reward, with United failing to score for the second time in their last three Premier League matches. Ten Hag has rotated between Martial and Hojlund in recent weeks, with the duo starting three games and two games each respectively since the November international break.

Hojlund, who joined the Reds from Atalanta in the summer, is still searching for his first Premier League goal, while Martial has scored just twice all season. United's lack of goals from their forwards is becoming an increasing concern, and Neville believes Ten Hag's decision to persevere with Martial is baffling, though he has pointed the overall blame at the Glazer family for not recruiting wisely in recent years.
Neville, addressing United's struggles on his Sky Sports podcast, said: "Other clubs have really, really competent sporting departments. It's down to the Glazers that United have not for 10 years provided the leadership, guidance and strength over recruitment.
