"Bit of mischief-making" - Journalist reacts after transfer claim involving agent and Tottenham

Journalist Pete O’Rourke thinks speculation about Jorge Mendes looking for a Harry Kane replacement for Tottenham is simply a bit of “mischief-making”.

At the end of last month, reports emerged claiming the super-agent had lined up AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham and Benfica’s Darwin Nunez as potential successors to Kane.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are eager to bring Kane to Old Trafford when the transfer window opens.

The England captain joining the Red Devils would leave Spurs needing a new No.9, and the same outlet has claimed that new No.9 could come in the form of Abraham or Nunez after Mendes approached multiple centre-forwards in Europe about joining Antonio Conte’s side.

Neither player is likely to be cheap, however. The Daily Mail recently reported that Roma have put a £100m price tag on Abraham’s head, while reports from Portugal suggest Nunez will cost interested parties £66m.

The above comes as no shock, as both players have performed exceptionally well this season. Abraham has scored 23 goals in all competitions, while Nunez has bagged 28.

O’Rourke does not think there is too much in the speculation about Mendes searching for a potential replacement for Kane.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about it, the transfer insider said: “It’s maybe a bit of mischief-making, this story about Jorge Mendes trying to look for replacements for Harry Kane.”

When you look at their goalscoring records this season, Abraham and Nunez could be good options for Tottenham to consider if Kane is United bound.
