Birmingham City set to sign Arsenal star as 'big professional' arrives

Birmingham City are closing in on a loan move for Arsenal’s Auston Trusty.

The American defender has spent his entire career playing in domestic leagues but in January this year was signed by the Gunners. He remained with the Colorado Rapids for the remainder of last season - but their intent was always to loan him to a European league for the 2022/23 campaign.

The move came after two successful years with the MLS outfit, whom he joined from Philadelphia Union in 2019. The 6ft 3in centre-back played a key role in helping the Rapids win the 2021 Western Conference for the first time in their history.

Birmingham City have signed veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy following his release by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ruddy has become John Eustace's third summer signing following the arrivals of Dion Sanderson and Przemyslaw Placheta, on loan from Wolves and Norwich City respectively. Blues are also poised to sign American defender Auston Trusty on loan from Arsenal.

The goalkeeper, who turns 36 in October, has been playing second fiddle at Molineux for the past four seasons, first to Rui Patricio and then to Jose Sa last term. He made five appearances across all competitions last season, including two Premier League outings in May.

Birmingham City have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper John Ruddy, who has outlined the "massive club" he is joining.

Ruddy, 35, has signed a one-year-deal to join John Eustace's squad ahead of the 2022/23 Championship campaign which is set to get underway at the end of July, and he will bring a wealth of experience whilst doing so with over 300 club appearances to his name.
