Birmingham City receive triple defensive boost as Manchester United man returns

Birmingham City will be boosted by the return of Teden Mengi for Saturday’s clash with Hull City.

The Manchester United loanee has recovered from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of Blues' last four matches and is in contention for a start against the Tigers.

Jeremie Bela is also back having missed out on last weekend’s win at Bristol City giving Lee Bowyer a decision to make in defence - one which might become even more difficult with Maxime Colin also an imminent returnee.

The head coach said: “Teds is back training, he has been training all week, he came back to us on Monday so he is available to be in the squad.

“Bela was in on Monday, trained with the group, he had a sickness bug, the best thing is to keep him away from the group, you don’t want it going through everyone now we are getting players back.

“Max might be joining in with us tomorrow. Everybody is different, people get injuries and their bodies heal different to other people’s. Max is obviously a quick healer.

“We are not going to rush him back when we don’t need to, Jordan is doing well there but it would be great to have him back maybe for the last eight-nine games. At worst he will be training with us on Sunday when we are in.”

Colin is not likely to feature against Hull but if Bowyer recalls Mengi that could cost Nico Gordon his place despite the fact the teenger's first Championship start of the season at Ashton Gate was an impressive goalscoring one.

But with Hull to face this weekend and Middlesbrough on Tuesday - Bowyer’s defenders could not be coming back at a better time.
