Birmingham City man closing in on move to European club
Birmingham City midfielder Ivan Sunjic is set to join Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin, a report from German outlet Bild has claimed.
Sunjic joined Birmingham from Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb back in the summer of 2019 for a reported £6.3million.
Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 133 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, scring six goals in that time.
Now however, it seems as though the midfielder could be set to move on from St Andrew’s in the not too distant future.
According to this latest update, Sunjic is now set to join Hertha Berlin, with the 25-year-old said to have already travelled to Germany to complete his medical with the top-flight club.
It is thought that Hertha’s transfer manager Fredi Bobic embarked on a scouting mission to England back in April, where it appears that Sunjic caught his attention.
As things stand, there are two years remaining on Sinjic’s contract with Birmingham – securing his future in the Midlands until the summer of 2024 – and it remains to be seen if this deal will be a loan or permanent one.
The Verdict
This does look as though it could be a sensible move for Sunjic.
Although he has featured regularly for Birmingham throughout his time with the club, the midfielder never seems to have settled or hit his top form for the club.
As a result, a move elsewhere does give him the chance for something of a reset in his career, and at 25-years-old, he does still have plenty of time to take advantage of that.
This of course, will also give him the chance to play top-flight football in one of Europe’s big leagues, and that too will surely make this an appealing deal for the midfielder to complete.
