Birmingham City lose Manchester United starlet as Lee Bowyer reveals Andre Wisdom update

Birmingham City will be without Teden Mengi for the next six weeks, an absence that effectively eats into all but the final couple of matches of his time at Blues. The news comes after the Manchester United trainee hurt his hamstring in Tuesday night’s defeat to Middlesbrough, his second such injury since signing in the January transfer window.

Mengi initially hurt his hamstring away to Bournemouth on February 9 but then played against Luton before being sidelined for a month. He returned against Boro but broke down after half an hour, with what Lee Bowyer confirmed was a recurrence in the same leg.

With George Friend also out until well into April Blues have just one fit senior centre back, Marc Roberts, although Nico Gordon has done well in the last couple of games and Maxime Colin and Kristian Pedersen have spent time there this year. Pedersen is, though, suspended for the visit to Swansea this weekend,

There is, however, better news in attack where Lyle Taylor and Troy Deeney are a couple of weeks from returning, indeed both could be ready to face West Bromwich Albion after the international break. Taylor and Deeney are both out with training ground calf injuries - the latter having already spent a month out with a thigh problem picked up in the FA Cup against Plymouth.

Bowyer said: “Lyle we are hopeful, take it lightly, he can maybe get back for the West Brom game. Troy is outside with the fitness people again and from what I understand he is going to be out there a couple of weeks.” Blues also have Lukas Jutkiewicz and Scott Hogan fit for the trip to south Wales.
