Birmingham City interested in 'new Cafu' as Blues chief issues update on St Andrew's repairs

Birmingham City are interested in Forest Green defender Kane Wilson, BirminghamLive understands. The 22-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding campaign at the New Lawn culminating in being named League Two Player of the Season.

The former West Brom trainee has also helped Rob Edwards’ men win promotion to League One for the first time in the club’s history, a campaign in which he has played a huge part. Wilson has scored three goals and provided 14 assists in 43 appearances this season as Rovers close in on the League Two title.

BristolLive claims Nottingham Forest have watched Wilson in recent weeks and say that other Championship clubs have been to Forest Green to see a player who is out of contract in the summer and who has thrived in the right wing-back position. Blues have used wing backs for much of the season with Maxime Colin, Jordan Graham and even Onel Hernandez having spent time in the role.

While the experienced Colin remains a mainstay on the right side of Blues’ defence, he has had fitness troubles this term and is backed up by youngster Marcel Oakley. Wilson came through the academy at Albion and he worked his way up to the fringes of Tony Pulis’ first team before being loaned to Exeter City in 2017. He also spent time with Walsall and Tranmere Rovers before eventually leaving The Hawthorns in 2020.

It’s four months since Riley McGree played the last of his 30 games for Birmingham City. A 4-0 away defeat to Blackburn Rovers was no way to usher in the Christmas period nor end a Blues career that had started to blossom.
