Birmingham City hand trial to teen talent as Lee Bowyer lays out injury plan

Birmingham City have taken Cheltenham Town academy prospect Felix Miles on trial. That’s according to sister title GloucestershireLive who say the attacking midfielder has spent the last week training with Blues.

They say the 18-year-old is hoping to earn a deal for next season’s development squad and has recently spent two weeks with Southampton and for whom he played in 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth as a No. 10. GloucestershireLive expect a decision to be made on Miles’ future after the game against Norwich City at St Andrew’s on Monday.

Miles scored in pre-season friendlies with Cinderford Town and Evesham United last summer. has been in the Robins’ youth set-up since Under 9 and has also had a loan spell with Hellenic League Premier Division Tuffley Rovers. He also joined Benfica for an elite training camp in the summer of 2017, along with six of his Cheltenham team mates.

He made his first team debut in the EFL Trophy second round defeat by Portsmouth in December 2020 as a 77th minute substitute in place of Finn Azaz at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium. He has made three further Trophy appearances for Cheltenham this season, scoring his first senior goal in the 2-2 home draw with Exeter City.

Lee Bowyer believes the international break comes at a perfect time for Birmingham City’s walking wounded to ‘recharge their batteries’. Blues have two weeks off before they face local rivals West Bromwich Albion at St Andrew’s on Sunday week – an opportunity for some of their injured players to return and others carrying knocks to recover.
