Birmingham City could receive downgrade with incoming audit results

A report from The Athletic has detailed the current situation with the Blues, with the season coming to a close this weekend.

The audit is set to cover areas such as facilities, staffing, coaching quality, education and welfare provisions.

The results are expected to be received by the club soon, with the possibility that Birmingham could have their Category One status removed as a consequence.

The club is still awaiting updates, so have no further information to reveal as of yet.

But this kind of uncertainty has surrounded the Blues for some time, so this waiting period is more of the same for those involved with the club.

There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Lee Bowyer, who could be dismissed from his position as early as next week.

The final game of the season comes against Blackburn Rovers, with recent reports suggesting the 45-year old will be sacked following the conclusion of their Championship campaign.

So, despite a packed crowd expected at St Andrew’s on Saturday, there will likely be no party atmosphere to celebrate what has been a tumultuous season with the team.

Losing that Category One status will be a big blow to the club’s reputation.

The academy has been a bright spark in recent years, while everything has been in trouble.

The likes of Jude Bellingham have come through to magnificent success, but has had to be sold to create funds for the club to survive.

Birmingham will be hoping there is good news in that audit and that this summer can be the start of something new, with a replacement for Bowyer also likely a necessary next step to be made.
