Billie Jean King Cup Finals: Who is joining Emma Raducanu on British team?

Emma Raducanu will lead the Great Britain team in next month’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Glasgow. 

Raducanu is Britain’s highest-ranked female player right now and is currently 68th in the world. 

The 19-year-old has struggled for form so far this year and withdrew from her latest WTA event in Romania with a wrist problem. 

However, she hopes to be fit in time to compete in Glasgow next month. 

The Billie Jean King Cup was founded back in 1963 and is the premier international team tournament in women’s tennis. 

From 1995 to 2020, the competition was called the Fed Cup before being renamed in honour of King two years ago. 

The 2022 Finals will see 12 nations compete for the title. The teams are split into four groups of three, with the winner of each going through to the semi-finals. 

Great Britain lost their qualifier in April against the Czech Republic but will compete anyway as they are the host nation. 

Joining Raducanu and the rest of the British team in Group C is Spain and Kazakhstan. 

Harriet Dart

Dart has made significant strides this year and almost became the British number one at this year’s US Open. 

The 26-year-old is ranked 90th in the world right now and competed in every Grand Slam this year. 

At Flushing Meadows, she secured her first-ever win over a top-10 player when she beat Daria Kasatkina in three sets. 

She has also defeated the likes of Elina Svitolina, Camila Osorio and Camila Giorgi this season. 

Heather Watson 

Watson is the most experienced player in the British team, though she is also the lowest ranked. 

That being said, the 30-year-old has an impressive record in the Billie Jean King Cup, having won 30 matches and lost just 14.
