'Better sign him!' - Man United fans send Marcel Sabitzer message after amazing Bayern goal haul

A number of Manchester United supporters have been reacting to Marcel Sabitzer’s five-goal haul for Bayern Munich in their ruthless 27-0 mauling of Rottach-Egern in Tuesday’s friendly.

Sabitzer netted all of his goals within 22 second-half minutes in his first appearance for his parent club since his loan at United ended. Erik ten Hag decided against signing the Austrian permanently despite his three goals in 18 outings.

The 29-year-old was recruited on January transfer deadline day upon a long-term ankle injury to Christian Eriksen. Sabitzer started 11 of his 18 appearances and perhaps may have made more but for his knee injury that ended his season early.

United liaised with Bayern over his rehabilitation with a decision still up in the air over his future. However, United are not expected to go back in for the midfielder, who turns 30 next season.

They have in the meantime brought in Mason Mount for an initial £55m and are monitoring Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Sabitzer had a number of backers among the United fanbase, with some disappointed that the club did not enquire about a low-cost signing. The playmaker has two years left on his Bayern contract but may have been available for a reduced fee given his lack of competitive game time at the German champions.
