Best knockout ever? Tommy Hearns' two-round destruction of Roberto Duran in 1984
Almost half a century ago, boxing legend Tommy Hearns shocked the world with one of the greatest knockouts the sport has ever witnessed.
Back in 1984, ‘The Hitman’ famously produced the ‘knockout of the decade’ to floor Roberto Duran in emphatic fashion.
The American’s WBC and Ring super-welterweight titles were on the line as they faced off at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
And as with many of their fights it was sheer unadulterated violence for as long as it lasted from start to finish.
Duran, however, didn’t get much of a sniff.
Despite his formidable reputation, he proved to be no match for Hearns who entered the bout with a significant height and reach advantage, 6ft 1in and 78in compared to Duran’s 5 ft 7in and 66in.
With 1:07 on the clock in the second round, Hearns simply pulverised his opponent with his signature right cross.
