Benni McCarthy has already hinted at Manchester United 'transfer interest' in Taylor Booth

First-team coach Benni McCarthy has already inadvertently hinted at Manchester United's reported interest in FC Utrecht midfielder Taylor Booth.

According to a report by the Mail, United, who unveiled their 2023/24 home shirt on Tuesday morning, are 'weighing up' a move for Booth as an alternative option to prime midfield target Mason Mount. The Reds have already lodged three bids for the Chelsea midfielder, all of which have been rejected, and frustrations are beginning to increase.

United have made a slow start to this summer's transfer window, largely impacted because of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the takeover situation, resulting in barely any progress being made so far. Manager Erik ten Hag believes Mount can strengthen his side's midfield options, but United are understood to be unhappy with the situation.

With that in mind, reports have claimed that the Reds are now paying close attention to USA international Booth, who has previously been on the books of Bayern Munich. The report claims, however, that United are yet to make an official approach for his signature.

Nevertheless, United coach McCarthy, who joined Erik ten Hag's coaching staff last July, recently hinted, albeit by accident, that United were keen on Booth last summer. The former Blackburn Rovers striker was a shock addition to the club's coaching staff and it happened, it seems, as a result of Ten Hag enquiring about Booth.
