Benfica president makes Goncalo Ramos 'prediction' and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Benfica president Rui Costa believes Manchester United and other interested clubs will 'come close' to reaching their valuation of star striker Goncalo Ramos.

That is according to a report by Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, which claims that Costa believes interested parties will be prepared to run their asking price close. United are desperate to bring in a new striker this summer and Ramos is one of several options they are monitoring.

The 22-year-old made a name for himself at last year's World Cup in Qatar, scoring a hat-trick in Portugal's 6-1 win over Switzerland in the round-of-16. He replaced Cristiano Ronaldo that evening and made headlines across the globe for his contributions.

Ramos, who turned 22 just over a week ago, enjoyed an outstanding 2022/23 campaign for Benfica, scoring 27 goals and grabbing 12 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions. His numbers, unsurprisingly, have resulted in him being linked with a flurry of big-name clubs across Europe.

United manager Erik ten Hag is understood to be a fan of the striker and he believes that he has what it takes to thrive in the Premier League. French giants Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with interest in his signature.

However, anyone tempted to sign Ramos will reportedly have to cough up €80million, which is a slight decrease on the €100m figure that was doing the rounds not long ago. Though Costa reportedly believes interested clubs will 'come close' to meeting Benfica's demands, it is understood that Ramos has a €120m release clause within his contract.
