Ben Doak making instant Scotland impact as 'no fear' Euro 2024 attitude from Liverpool prospect hailed

John Carver insists Scotland’s Euro stars are fit and ready to fly as he challenged them to give Steve Clarke the ultimate final selection headache.

And Clarke's assistant insists Ben Doak - one of five players who sat out full training yesterday as the Scotland limbered up for the first of two warm-up matches against Gibraltar on Monday - won’t be phased by anything in Germany if he makes the cut. Having already lost key men Aaron Hickey, Lewis Ferguson and Nathan Patterson to injury, Carver is confident everyone in the 28-man group is good to to go with just 14 days until the big kick-off against the hosts.

Scott McKenna, who plays for Copenhagen against Randers tomorrow, was absent at Hampden while Scott McTominay, Stuart Armstrong, John Souttar and Doak did light sessions away from the main group.

But Carver said: “I think everyone is on target to be fit and ready to go. Obviously they know their bodies, the medical people have been in constant touch with their clubs so I think everybody seems to be fine.

“McKenna has play-offs with Copenhagen, Armstrong and Souttar worked when we finished with the fitness coach and the other guys just did a recovery session.

“I did not actually see them and I haven’t seen them, other than just in passing today. Stuart in particular and Souttar did a good work out with the fitness coach.

“You can tell there’s a real high there. The mood and the spirit is really high. I can tell you from my experience, even driving up I felt different.

“I felt the excitement of what’s ahead of us. It is slightly different from the previous occasion because we prepared down at Rockcliffe Hall in England and we were in Covid. So the whole thing seems different.”

That excitement will be cruelly cut for
