5 Scotland changes Steve Clarke could make as Gilmour clamour builds and opposing right wing back options assessed

If nothing else, it surely can't get any worse for Scotland.

An opening night battering from Germany in Munich shredded the Euro 2024 optimism amongst the Tartan Army - at least until their steins were full again - and left the squad angry and embarrassed. Now they have the chance to put things right against Switzerland in Cologne, where a draw is the bare minimum required to prevent Sunday's clash with Hungary becoming a dead rubber.

Of course, everyone is an expert when it goes wrong and plenty have had their say on what they wold have done against Germany in hindsight. What Steve Clarke does against the Swiss is now the only thing that matters. We know there will be at least one enforced change thanks to Ryan Porteous' suspension, but it's unlikely to be the only one. How many Clarke should make has been another talking point and Record Sport takes a look at what alterations he might have in mind to sink the Swiss.

Unless we create history and make the knock-out stage for the first time, Porteous' tournament is over after UEFA hit him with a two-match ban for his reckless challenge on Ilkay Gundogan. Scott McKenna was also thrown on in Munich. His header led to the consolation OG from Antonio Rudiger on what was the one, miniscule bright spot on Friday night. However, he's almost certainly behind Hanley in the pecking order.
