"Before Ange came in..." - Journalist claims 51-cap Celtic hero was "on his way out"

Ange Postecoglou saved Tom Rogic‘s Celtic career, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 51-cap Australia international was set to leave Celtic Park last summer, but he stayed following Postecoglou’s arrival, which has seen him rediscover his best form.

In 2020-2021, Rogic found himself out of the team under Neil Lennon and was on the verge of ending his long stay with the club.

According to The Athletic, the midfielder was attracting interest from Asia – likely to have been teams from either China or Japan.

Rogic featured in just over half of the Hoops’ Scottish Premiership games, with his attacking output an underwhelming one goal and four assists.

As a result, Celtic ended the campaign trophyless, and Rogic’s days in Glasgow appeared numbered.

But Postecoglou’s appointment saw Rogic decide against moving to Asia, and the Australian pair have worked together to put Celtic on the brink of winning the title, with the 29-year-old at the heart of their impressive campaign.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Before Ange Postecoglou came in, you were probably thinking that Tom Rogic was on his way out of Celtic, but Postecoglou has got the best out of his fellow Australian, and I think he has been instrumental in Celtic’s success this year.”

Rogic has been a key player for the majority of his Celtic career, even though he’s not been at his best in the last couple of seasons.
