BBC Strictly's Johannes Radebe's incredible journey from homelessness to international dance star

Johannes Radebe burst onto our screens as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. He made history three years later with baker John Whaite when the pair became the first all-male partnership to compete on the show - although they no longer stay in touch.

But the South African hasn't had an easy path to stardom, enduring bullying at school for his sexuality and at one point ending up homeless. Now the choreographer is hitting the road with his very own show.

The BBC One favourite is currently performing to theatre audiences up and down the country as part of his House of JoJo tour, which started at the Wycombe Swan on March 29 and will finish at the start of June at the Liverpool Empire.

A synopsis for the live show says: "Join TV Dance Sensation Johannes Radebe and a host of eclectic characters in this brand-new theatrical celebration jam-packed with roof-raising music, dazzling costumes and of course, world class dance." The 36-year-old is set to appear on The Jonathan Ross Show tonight (Saturday April 13) to chat all about the exciting new venture.

We take a look back at Johannes' incredible journey throughout the years. The star, who is gay, was born in Zamdela, Orange Free State, South Africa on April 27 1987. He and his sister went to a local dance school together.

Their parents separated while they were still at school. At just 13 years old, Johannes left home to live with a dance coaching couple in Gauteng province, attending a secondary school in the Johannesburg suburb of Ennerdale.
