BBC Death in Paradise fans spot major crossover in spin-off as detective returns
Fans of the Death in Paradise spin-off, Return to Paradise, were quick to spot a Humphrey Goodman crossover in the show.
The latest episode aired on Friday night, with viewers watching Mackenzie Clarke (portrayed by Anna Samson) tackle yet another perplexing murder case.
Mackenzie has made history as the series' inaugural female lead, but it's her character's resemblance to past detectives from Death in Paradise that has sparked conversation among fans.
On a Facebook fan group, one viewer remarked: "Mackenzie is the female version of Humphrey, I love it."
Another chimed in with enthusiasm: "OMG, yes, I totally see the crossover," while a third commented: "The female detective is definitely mimicking Kris Marshall," reports the Express.
Further discussions saw a fan stating: "Mackenzie is Humphrey Goodman vibes."
Previously, fans had also picked up on a Ben Miller reference within the spin-off. Even Anna Samson herself acknowledged the parallels between her role and the original series.
During an interview with Express.co.uk and other media outlets, she shared: "So the show, without being a carbon copy of the original, has lots of tips of the hat to the original, not just with the characters but even certain shots are paying homage to the original, like on the beach with the suitcase and not [wearing] an appropriate outfit for the weather. That is certainly a wink and a nod to the original."
Earlier episodes of the series also featured a cameo from Death in Paradise's own Jack Mooney, played by Ardal O'Hanlon, although he hasn't reappeared since.
Despite not meeting Ardal during the shoot, actress Anna has shared that viewers can look forward to seeing more of Jack as the series progresses.
