BBC Death in Paradise exit 'sealed' for main character after 13 years as familiar face returns

Fans of Death in Paradise are speculating that more than one character could be leaving the show following its return on Friday.

DI Mervin Wilson, portrayed by Don Gilet, seemed determined to depart Saint Marie until an unexpected murder involving a new police officer demanded his attention. Despite his initial intention to leave, the detective postponed his trip after spotting something amiss at the crime scene en route to the airport, committing himself to remain until the mystery was resolved.

"Yes, I do," admitted JP before delivering the unexpected tidings, "But I wondered if I could have a chat with you. Have you got some time, sir?"

As the Commissioner gave his assent, JP went on: "So, there are some things I found out about at the headquarters back in Jamaica. They loop me into these things, you know?

"I shouldn't really be saying anything, sir, but after everything you have done for me, I thought it would be wrong if I didn't."
