BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst issues three-word response after co-star's awkward confession
It seems Naga Munchetty was a bit embarrassed during Thursday's episode of BBC Breakfast. The presenter was discussing the latest range of stamps by Royal Mail when the conversation took an amusing turn.
Her colleague, Nina Warhurst, noted there would be 12 special stamps honouring memorable scenes from the classic comedy, The Vicar of Dibley. As the future collectables flashed across the screen, Nina remarked on how distant the original airings of the sitcom now seemed.
She observed: "Looking at that Naga, it's the kind of show where I go, 'Oh, it was only a few years ago'. But no, it was such a long time ago!" Naga agreed, noting how swiftly time passes and shared an anecdote about their fellow BBC star, Carol Kirkwood.
Naga mentioned: "We're already at the time where we stop saying Happy New Year, apparently. I don't think I've said it to Carol, though." To which Nina expressed her surprise: "Have you not? ! Shame on you."
In her defence, Naga explained: "I don't think so. I haven't seen her!" Nina suggested she could have texted Carol with new year wishes, an idea Naga conceded to.
When the segment moved to Carol for the weather update, the experienced broadcaster clarified that Naga had indeed sent her a message, saying: "You did message me Naga! And Happy New Year again to you both."
As the weather brief concluded, with news of falling temperatures, Naga appeared to recall the exchange they had. She told her co-star: "I did see the message! I checked, and we did send a message very early on New Year's Day."
Teasing Naga, Nina remarked: "I'm sure you're not the only one who can't remember everything about the morning of New Year's Day."
