BBC announces host of hit reality show set to return 21 years after the last series - and fans can apply

The BBC has announced the host for the reboot of a hit reality show 21 years after the last UK version aired. The much-anticipated return of TV show Survivor will be hosted by Joel Dommett, the broadcaster has confirmed.

Survivor has been produced in countries across the world and last appeared on UK screens in 2001 and 2002 when it aired on ITV for two seasons, with the first being hosted by Mark Austin and the second Mark Nicholas.

Comedian and presenter Joel, who already fronts The Masked Singer and is hosting Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on BBC One next month, thanked the broadcaster for believing in him to present the return of the popular reality competition.

"I’m the new host of the UK’s Survivor. I can’t believe it," he said. "A huge thank you to the BBC for trusting me with this. It's such a hugely popular format all over the world and I’m super excited to help bring it to our sweet little country. Let the tribal councils begin."

The reality competition is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year,
