Bazunu on brink of move to Southampton

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is on the verge of departing Manchester City for Southampton.

According to reports in the Athletic, the 20-year-old is set to move to Southampton for a deal that would exceed £10 million when various add-ons are taken into consideration.

Southampton have eyed Bazunu as a replacement for Fraser Forster, who left for Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer this week.

Bazunu's first club Shamrock Rovers would benefit under this arrangement, garnering a seven-figure windfall due to sell-on clauses in the original deal with Manchester City.

The Irish keeper spent last season on loan at Portsmouth, where his form earned him the club's Player's Player of the Year award.

The Dubliner, currently ruled out through injury, earned 10 international caps for Republic of Ireland in 2021, winning numerous plaudits for his stellar form throughout the 2022 World Cup qualification campaign.
