Gibbs shares advice for Proteas batting: 'We shouldn't be so predictable'

Former Proteas batter Herschelle Gibbs feels South Africa need to be unpredictable when experimenting with their batting order.

The Proteas crashed out of this month's Australian T20 World Cup in spectacular fashion after two losses in the Super 12s.

Needing a win against minnows, Netherlands, the Proteas' batting line-up collapsed and fell 13 runs short - finishing third in Group 2 on five points.

It resulted in another failed attempt at making the World Cup knock-out rounds and Gibbs feels the Proteas were not proactive enough in Australia.

The Proteas stuck with more or less the same batting order throughout the World Cup campaign as skipper Temba Bavuma and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock opened the batting.

Bavuma's selection had come under fire with many pundits questioning Reeza Hendricks' omission from the starting XI.

Gibbs, who played 90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20Is, was vocal over his support for Hendricks, who only played one game in the World Cup.

"I feel a lot for Reeza Hendricks because going to the World Cup is the ultimate in our sport in cricket," Gibbs said at the Gary and Vivienne Player Invitational this past weekend.

"The man in form, being the man of the series in England just a couple of months ago, I would like to know what he is feeling."

Rilee Rossouw was South Africa's best batter in Australia, scoring 141 runs in his four matches - including 109 against Bangladesh.

Gibbs believes the Proteas missed the mark in the World Cup and failed to think outside the box, which resulted in a poor batting display in Australia.
