Battlefield: Job listing hints at return of single-player campaign
A job listing for the Battlefield game has hinted at the return of a single-player campaign to the game.
The game has pivoted more towards a solely multiplayer offering in recent years, focusing on the PvP combat as opposed to offering a narrative within the game.
The Bad Company series of Battlefield games, for example, had a number of meaty, focused stories that players loved, while Battlefield 1 also put players in the shoes of a variety of soldiers in the first World War.
And it now appears that we could soon see the return of single-player campaigns to the first-person shooter.
A job listing for a position at EA’s Battlefield Seattle studio has suggested that there will be a focus on a story-based mode, per GameRant.
The job is for a Design Director and the listing claims that they will help to “design efforts necessary for creating a best-in-class single player campaign experience.”
Pretty simply, this is going to be a job for a developer focusing solely on making single-player stories for the series.
The role is also said to “embrace the core tenets of the Battlefield franchise” and to make sure “they are woven through all layers of a masterfully designed single player campaign.”
It seems as though the next Battlefield game, whenever it comes, will have a real focus on the narrative-led mode, and that could be exciting for most fans.
Battlefield 2042 has not exactly been rapturously received, gaining a 63 Metacritic score from critics and a user score of just 2.6 from 1,211 ratings.
That’s a remarkably low score from a fanbase that is usually incredibly passionate about their games, so a move back to the good old days of single-player campaigns can only be good news.
