Barry Robson thrilled with Aberdeen boss backing from Scott Brown as he thanks old Celtic pal

Barry Robson has joked Scott Brown is only backing him for the Aberdeen job because he is his pal.

The former Dons captain threw his weight behind the interim manager earlier this week, insisting he should be given the job until the end of the season at least. Robson is still in the dark as to what is happening in the club’s search for a new boss and how long he will remain in charge, ahead of the weekend clash with Hearts.

The 44-year-old and Fleetwood manager Brown know each other well from their time together at Celtic and Scotland. They were also together as part of Aberdeen’s last interim management team before Jim Goodwin was appointed last season. Modestly Robson said: “He’s a good friend of mine so that’s maybe why he’s saying it. He’s good mate and when we took over in the interim last time he was really good. I’m glad to see how well he is doing down at Fleetwood as it is not an easy league to be in.

“He’s done a terrific job and he needs to consolidate with them this year then push on next year. I’ll maybe send him a text and thank him.”

The Aberdeen board met earlier this week to take the next step on their managerial search and to narrow down their candidate list. Robson has stated on numerous occasions that he wants to be a manager but has had no indication whether or not he will get the opportunity at Pittodrie this time around.

He said: “No, we are just the same from the last statement, we are just focusing on Saturday right now. It is going on in the background with the board and it is something you would need to ask them about. For me it has been a total focus on this game at Hearts. I sound like a broken record but it genuinely has.
