Barry Ferguson swerves Danilo to Rangers transfer hype as Ibrox hero 'reluctant' on striker for one key reason

Concerned Barry Ferguson is waiting until seeing if Danilo handle the pressure at Rangers before he buys into the hype surrounding the Brazilian.

Record Sport understands that the Dutch champions have accepted a final ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ offer from Ibrox for the attacker worth around £6m after landing a replacement for the striker with Netherlands international Calvin Stengs set to arrive in Rotterdam from Ligue 1 side Nice. The forward netted 12 goals for Feyenoord last term and helped Arne Slot's side claim a historic Eredivisie title victory - with fans buzzing about the impact Danilo could have on the Scottish Premiership.

But Ferguson took a more reserved approach on the imminent arrival as he admitted it was difficult to gauge how the player would handle life at Rangers from "internet highlights". He told The Go Radio Football Show: "He is on player that Michael Beale looks desperate to get in, no doubt about it.

"They have went in with two or three bids. With (Antonio) Colak going to Parma it was really important to get another striker in.

"It was great to see Kemar Roofe get minutes at the weekend, but I have only seen Danilo like everybody else - on the internet highlights. He does look a really good player, but I'm reluctant to say and will wait until the season starts.

"That is when the pressure is on you. Certainly when you play with Rangers you are under pressure to win every game you play in."
