Barry Ferguson lays out 2 point plan for Rangers board to follow as he reveals why latest senior figure quit Ibrox

Barry Ferguson insists that the Rangers board must appoint a CEO before they make their next move after the latest high-profile departure from Ibrox.

Director of football operations Creag Robertson is set to clear out his desk before Christmas as he becomes the latest senior figure to leave the Scottish Premiership giants. Interim chairman John Gilligan now faces the tough task of replacing Robertson as well as finding a chief executive, head of academy and a permanent board boss to replace him.

James Bisgrove resigned as CEO back in June after taking up a job at Saudi outfit Al-Qadsiah while John Bennett also stepped down as chairman earlier this year - and former Ibrox skipper Ferguson insists that a replacement for Bisgrove is top of the list for the Light Blues. He then reckons supremo Gilligan should look to find someone to take on the role of chairman permanently.

On Robertson leaving, Ferguson reckons the departure is down to a career change. He told Go Radio: "I know Creag pretty well. He is director of football operations. It looks to me as if he is just ready to go and take his career somewhere else. I believe it's round about Christmas time he is leaving. I'm sure I will bump into him before that and I'll obviously wish him all the best."

Pressed by host Paul Cooney over a potential "pattern" of exits from senior positions at Ibrox, Ferguson played down any need for panic as he laid out the plan: "Listen, I just think it's one of those things in football. I think Rangers need to get a CEO in as soon as possible.

"I think John Gilligan has been clear he is not just going to bring anybody in, they are going to have to go through a clear process. That is what they are doing. I think in the next number of weeks
