Barry Ferguson banishes one Rangers fear over Dundee fixture jigsaw as Celtic told date doesn't matter

Barry Ferguson insists he has no fears over Rangers facing Dundee just days before their mammoth derby clash against Celtic Ibrox - if the trip to Dens Park is rescheduled for the earliest available midweek date.

The fallout from the late call-off at Dens Park has rumbled on since referee Don Robertson took the decision to call off the game after heavy rainfall on Tayside. Ibrox boss Philippe Clement expressed concerns over the standard of the pitch and Dee are now facing a punishment from the SPFL with league bosses investigating the fourth Dundee game at home that has been postponed.

But while Dundee face sanctions discussions now rumble on over which of the two available midweek dates that are available - April 2/3 and April 9/10 - will be selected. The first window would follow the restart of the Scottish Premiership after the international break - just days after welcoming Hibs and before facing Celtic at Ibrox.

Some fans have raised eyebrows over the game being shoehorned in before the crucial title showdown with Brendan Rodgers' side - with former Rangers striker expressing concerns over a "monstrous week" for the Light Blues. However, Ferguson has refused to press the panic button as he pointed to their Europa League exploits that the team will be used to a busy fixture list.

He told Go Radio: "I think it will be in the midweek between the Hibs game on the Saturday and the Celtic game on the Sunday. I've no issues with that.

"I'm sure the management team will not have any issues. The players won't, if I was a player - of course I would have wanted to play the game on Sunday, but listen Rangers have been used to three games a week because of their European run."
