Barcelona star sends Sunderland message on Instagram

Sunderland secured their spot in the Championship for next season with a comfortable victory at Wembley on the weekend.

And it was apparent the news of their promotion had caught the attention of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, who took to Instagram to congratulate the Wearsiders.

It has been a difficult number of years for the Black Cats, after four seasons spent in the third tier of English football having been relegated from the Premier League back in 2017.

The French winger shared Sunderland’s full-time Instagram post to congratulate Black Cats owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, who bought into the club last year.

It seems the pair have been friends for some time now, with previous Instagram posts from the Sunderland owner showing them together through the years.

There are a lot of rumours surrounding the future of the Barcelona man at Camp Nou, however, Sunderland fans may more concerned over the future of main man Ross Stewart.

Fans will be hoping issues off the field involving Stewart Donald, Juan Sartori and Charlie Methven will not have a big influence on their ability to spend in the summer.

It has recently been revealed Louis-Dreyfus only has 41% of the club in his name, with the likes of Donald still holding shares of the club.

Peterborough United find themselves planning for life back in the third tier having been relegated after just one season in the Championship, and having taken four years to gain promotion, this would be a huge blow for Sunderland to follow suit.

A big summer, therefore, lies ahead of the 25-year-old owner and maybe he can call on some favours from his apparent connections across the world of football as they plan for the summer window.
