Barcelona 'make Frenkie de Jong decision' to deliver Manchester United blow and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong with Barcelona deeming the midfielder one of three 'untouchables', according to reports in Spain.

United have been linked with De Jong ever since the arrival of Erik ten Hag last year, the Reds boss sanctioning a move for his Dutch compatriot that ultimately failed last summer. Barcelona had accepted a fee of around €75million in July, but the player decided against the move and vowed to fight for his place in Xavi's plans.

Ten Hag has retained interest in his De Jong, with a ball-playing No.8 one of this summer's key priorities - along with a world-class striker. However any hope of returning for the Dutchman has been dealt a blow with Sport reporting that Barcelona have deemed him 'untouchable'.

The Spanish side are said to have undertaken a review of the full squad, with summer departures necessary in order to balance their books. A number of Xavi's men will be available at the right price, but De Jong, Ronald Araujo and Pedri have all been made off limits at any cost.

Elsewhere, Football Insider reports that United could land Goncalo Ramos for just £70million - £35million less than his release clause.

United are expected to go big for a striker come summer, with Harry Kane the top target but the club planning alternative options. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insists his striker is not for sale, and a pragmatic approach at Old Trafford has seen the likes of Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund all of interest.
